To Summarize: We had quite the busy yesterday, Sunday, 5/30, our only full day on the island....
Started off with a very nice breakfast served by Jilana and friends. The 2 other couples staying at the Inn joined us on the shaded deck: Steve/Jackie from New Hampshire and Danny/Colleen from Pennsylvania. Didn't know it at the time but, we would end up spending most of the day touring the island with Danny and Colleen using $7/day bus passes with the VTA.
Left the Inn around 9am for the bus terminal in Vineyard Haven. Had some time to burn so we hit some local merchants namely: the Black Dog and Menemsha Blue. Boarded the #3 bus, which is when we hooked up with Danny and Colleen, for Grange Hall in West Tisbury - a transfer point. The VTA is very efficient and well worth the $7/day - one would pay alot more for pay as you go service. Picked up the #5 bus at Grange Hall to Aquinnah/Gay Head on the far Western end of the island. Spent a good hour there hiking around down to the beach and back up. Jumped back on the #5 back to Grange Hall and transfered to the #6 bus over to Edgartown.
If we weren't staying at Vineyard Haven, we'd love staying at Edgartown - really cool and site of several JAWs scenes from the 1977 movie. Enjoyed lunch at the Seafood Shanty, bought some souvenirs, jumped on the short ferry ride to 'Chappy' and back for $4/person and eventually headed back to the bus terminal to head back to Oak Bluffs. Long line waiting for the #13 bus to Oak Bluffs so, instead of waiting for the next #13 bus, we jumped on the #1 bus back to Vineyard Haven. Decided to go get cleaned up at the Inn before we headed back to Oak Bluffs, we'd been out for a good 7 hrs by then... had the #1 bus drop us off near Aldworth Rd, trekked back to the Inn, showered and headed back down to Vineyard Haven to pick up the #13 bus back to Oak Bluffs - got there at ~7pm after a 3 mile ride.
Oak Bluffs is the most commercial of the island cities. Plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. OB is famous for an indoor carousel (way underwhelming) and, small painted homes lined up very close to each other. It's also where we got back on the Fast Ferry to return to Quonset Point to end the weekend. Wandered around until about 2030, started feeling a bit peckish and, went to chow at Giordano's for some good Italian. Finally got back to the Inn around 2200 and hit the rack.

Woke up early, had another good breakfast with our friends, checked out with Jilana and headed down to Vineyard Haven for the short 0945 bus ride back to Oak Bluffs to catch our ferry. The ferry was quite packed. Although the day was beautiful, the sea was a bit rough until we got back into the Narragansett - there were quite a few folks not feeling well on the ride back. Everything smoothed out and we docked at 1215. De-boarded, jumped into the Hyundai and hit the road at ~1230. Got home right at 1630. Traffic wasn't that bad except for around New Haven, CT.
Did we really go to Martha's Vineyard??? In retrospect, seems surreal and like a dream. :-)
